Basti (Medicated Enema)

Basti is a medicated enema and one of the five core Panchakarma procedures. Medicated oil or a herbal decoction is introduced into the colon under practitioner supervision. It is regarded in classical texts as the single most important therapy for balancing Vata.

Supervision and preparation

Basti is a clinical procedure, not a spa therapy. It is preceded by an assessment, and usually by oil and steam preparation over preceding days. The preparation used, the quantity and the number of sessions are all set by your practitioner.
