About Vamana
Vamana is a supervised procedure that clears accumulated Kapha from the upper digestive tract and chest. It is one of the five classical Panchakarma actions and is never given in isolation.
How it is given
Several days of preparation come first: internal oleation with medicated ghee, followed by oil and steam therapies to mobilise what is to be cleared. On the day itself you are given a herbal preparation under direct supervision, and the practitioner monitors the process from start to finish. A period of graded diet and rest follows.
Who it is considered for
It is traditionally indicated where there is a clear Kapha excess. Whether it is appropriate for you is a clinical judgement your practitioner makes after assessment - it is not a general wellness treatment.
