About Virechana
Virechana clears accumulated Pitta through the lower digestive tract using a measured herbal purgative. It is among the more widely used of the five procedures and is generally considered the gentlest of the major cleansing actions.
How it is given
Preparation follows the same pattern as other Panchakarma procedures: internal oleation over several days, then oil and steam therapies. The purgative is then given in a dose your practitioner calculates for you, and the response is monitored throughout the day. A graded diet follows over the next few days.
Who it is considered for
It is traditionally indicated where Pitta has accumulated. Your practitioner decides on suitability after assessing you.
